چکیده

The increase in the number and life expectancy of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) worldwide determines high prevalence late complications diabetes, including diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN), most common type polyneuropathy. Oxidative stress is considered main reason for cellular pathology development mellitus, which use antioxidants DPN treatment. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), a natural fat-soluble antioxidant, effective drug reducing symptoms. Furthermore, symptom-modifying effect ALA has been shown numerous randomized controlled trials. article discusses possible disease-modifying ALA.

The role of glycation in the pathogenesis of diabetic polyneuropathy.

The most common neuropathy associated with diabetes mellitus is a distal sensory polyneuropathy. The relative importance of the direct effects of prolonged glycaemia on nervous tissue compared with indirect damage resulting from changes in blood vessels is not known. Although the importance of glycaemia is confirmed by a study showing that the incidence of neuropathy is greatly reduced by stric...

Pathogenetic mechanisms of diabetic nephropathy.

Diabetes is the leading cause of ESRD because diabetic nephropathy develops in 30 to 40% of patients. Diabetic nephropathy does not develop in the absence of hyperglycemia, even in the presence of a genetic predisposition. Multigenetic predisposition contributes in the development of diabetic nephropathy, thus supporting that many factors are involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. Hypergl...
